Bottom drive traction - lift removal - Park lane London
Brief
We were recently asked to carry out the full removal of a bottom drive traction lift by one our clients, The building was a difficult one navigate, with no storage space available and the public still using the area, This lift served an underground car park going down 4 floors making the logistics of getting all the redundant materials removed from the building a task in itself, with constant traffic of cars, there was no room for error.
Lift Removal
We were asked to remove the entire lift, all steel beams from the top of the shaft and all of the motor room equipment.
Being experienced, qualified lift engineers, we began by removing all doors, architraves and entrances using the running lift, making clearing them at the ground ( top ) floor, much easier. Minimising the amount of material to be carried up from the -4 level.
the counterweight was then positioned onto an aluminium super prop from our large fleet of lifting equipment, the car was then tackled and suspended on a 3 ton chain block allowing the lift to be de roped.
Lowering down the shaft using our chain block all shaft equipment was then removed and cut out, at every level we could exit the shaft, we to tried to remove as much material as possible to keep mess to a minimum and the car park flowing as it should on a normal day.
Once in the pit area the counter weight and lift car were dismantled and cut into pieces that were manageable, using pallet trucks and stillages, all materials were transported up to the ground floor by our team of 4, making the heavy work load much more manageable.
Once the Lift removal was completed, the only thing left to remove were the large steel beams and diverter wheels in the top of the lift shaft, for this to be done safely, a cantilever scaffold was constructed allowing safe access, The diverter wheels were slung and tackled out of the shaft and the steel work was cut and removed.
A mobile scaffold tower was erected in the shaft and the shaft painting carried out using this. Whilst this happened, the rest of our team dismantled and cleared all motor room equipment from the building.
